2016 Budget -Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family
Cameroon’s Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family will function with a budget of FCFA 6,888,000,000 in 2016. The budget, which has witnessed a 21 per cent increase from that of last year, will be geared towards the empowerment of women and gender promotion, family development and protection of children’s rights and institutional development and governance. The National Gender Policy is expected to be popularized and implemented. The budget will fund advocacy to fight all forms of violence against women and harmful socio-cultural practices as well as capacity- building amongst others are earmarked.
Minister Abena Ondoa has stated that the ministry is targeting 150,000 women and girls whose situation would be improved while 85 percent of families will be stabilized up from 70 per cent in 2014. There are also plans to construct more Women Empowerment Centres, refurbish and equip structures of the ministry in 2016.
