International Women’s Day 2014 : INSPIRING CHANGE (Photo gallery)

Women’s equality has made positive gains in Cameroon and the world at large. International Women’s Day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action.

Women farmers are the pillars of African agriculture. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation over two thirds of all women in Africa are employed in the agricultural sector and produce nearly 90 percent of food on the continent.
Health experts say only 30% of pregnant women in Cameroon access ANC services.Also, HIV is the leading cause of death for women of reproductive age worldwide and a major contributor to infant mortality. Some pregnant women used IWD as a platform to raise awareness on both issues
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 600,000,000 people globally have some form of disability, with 80% living in low income countries (WHO 2005). Of the disabled population, as many as 75% are women in low and middle income countries (Human Rights Watch 2006). In Africa women with disabilities face stigma, isolation, invisibility, punishment and generally are on the receiving end of negative attitudes on the part of the community
